‘The past is all about us and within’ Oodgeroo Noonuccal
Inspired by the words of Aboriginal poet and activist Oodgeroo Noonuccal, Around and within translates circular and spiritual relationships between past and present through the art of Aboriginal women. This exhibition of renowned and early career artists brings together embodied practices that are shaped by places of belonging, personal stories and ancestral wisdoms.
Embracing a diversity of mediums, techniques and materials, Around and within celebrates Aboriginal women’s art production: its inherent resilience and strength, innovation and deep processes embedded with significant cultural meanings.
Around and within included works from Macquarie Group Collection and new works. The exhibition was supported through the inaugural Macquarie Group First Nations Emerging Curator Award in partnership with Australia Council for the Arts.
